Apple M1 Mac Mini Unboxing

We recently featured a video of Jake and I unboxing his brand new Apple M1 MacBook Pro, and after a bit of practical use, it turns out the hype surrounding Apple’s new Silicon is warranted. ARGI is almost entirely a cloud-based operation and is set up to limit on-prem equipment as much as possible. That being said, cloud computing does have one major drawback and that is bandwidth speed and size restrictions. While working on video editing it became clear very quickly that transferring clips through a cloud environment can immediately bottleneck the entire process because of how long it takes to upload and download to the cloud. This problem can quickly be solved with an on-prem server, however at ARGI we use Apple products, and Apple doesn’t technically sell servers or maintain a server operating system. As it turns out, Apple has slowly been baking server functionality into macOS with features like file sharing and remote accessibility which allows for any Mac or MacBook to be used as a file server. So we decided to test all of this out by purchasing our very own M1 Mac Mini and using it as a speedy on-prem file server. If you’re curious how it’s working out be sure to come back as we have reviews and comparison tests coming out soon! In the meantime be sure to check out the unboxing video below and subscribe to stay updated!
